Hi Michael. I am new to GMRS and licensed as WSGC438 in Augusta. My first radio was a Midland handheld, low power which has allowed me to listen to local repeater traffic (mostly Gardiner, and occasionally Dresden). I bit the bullet and purchased a Baofeng UV-5RM which I believe can transmit at 10W. This should be sufficient to hit Gardiner and maybe Dresden. It arrived yesterday and I am mastered figuring out how to get to VFO and tune to the freq for Gardiner (462.600 MHz). Is there anything I need to do to the Baofeng to "program" it to receive and transmit on that "channel"? As an aside, there has been little or no traffic on that Gardiner repeater for many days. I am not hearing anything from either to Baofeng or the old Midland handheld. I confirmed with folks on the FB page that Gardiner was still on-line. Currently, the only channel I am hearing is 462.675 which is apparently Woodstock or Frankfort. I'm thinking its the later. Any help appreciated.
