I'm new to GMRS.
I started with UV-5R's and then moved up to a Kenwood TK8360H as my base at home and a Btech 25 watt in my mobile.
I listen to the Maine Statewide Net every morning on my 80 minute commute. I seldom transmit but, it's nice to hear the guys gripping about the same stuff that's in my head at that time of day. LOL
My next upgrade is to replace my homemade J-pole base antenna to try and hit the Aborn Hill machine in Knox.
I can hit Blackcap, Waldo and Bald Mt but, reception on my setup is currently very weak from Aborn Hill.

Nice!!! I have Kenwood TK880. Very nice radio! I started with a BAOFENG BF-888S. 10 years ago. I started on Bald MT that was the only repeater around. I have few Baofengs laying around. Very good starter radio. I want to upgrade to Motorola eventually for the handheld.
