Update 4:00pm: After an approximately 36 hour outage, the affected FCC databases are coming back online.
Original Report 2:15pm: Multiple FCC databases including its License Management System have been offline since early on Wednesday, March 12.
The LMS system controls the filings for the Media Bureau including all broadcast services including AM, FM, and television for purposes including station modifications, STAs, and license transfers. Other systems offline include the Universal Licensing System (ULS) for services under the auspices of the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau including amateur radio, EDOCS for Commission decisions, public notices and other daily releases, and TOWAIR which is used in relation to determining if a tower requires registration.
The outage is preventing any new filing from being made or any existing filing from being accessed.
REC Networks says that FCC sources suggest, “that the issue is related to network connectivity and that FCC IT teams are working on the issue.” REC adds that all of the affected systems have been suffering from quality of service issues such as slow responses and sporadic outages.
