What is the purpose of the NET?

Just want to get some insight on what people think. What is the purpose of the a "NET"?
I believe that a "NET" is a good way for new stations to be able to verify that their equipment is programmed correctly.

It’s kinda nice to hear not only how well you are transmitting but also how many others are listening. I usually hear the same 5-6 people which is great but when 30 check in it helps me understand the wide scope radio offers. And hearing people discuss radio/ antennas and the sort it helps me build knowledge and confidence.

Hi all. As someone new to GMRS but with a 60 year interest in Ham Radio and Short Wave Listening, it is always fun to learn about new technologies. Despite my background (which also includes significant work in IT), I did find getting my first radios programmed for use with the repeater system rather challenging. For the next NET meeting, assuming I will be available, I am looking forward to actually speaking to you all as I have finally accomplished the aforementioned "feat." I've been spending some money on equipment and am looking forward to expanding my presence on air.

BTW, when is the next NET "meeting?"

WSGC438 It will be good to hear you. The next net will be April 3 at 19:00. The net will not take place if any hazardous weather conditions take place or statewide emergencies take place.

I live down a peninsula in Harpswell where with a wind storm, our power and data can easily go out. One set of wires going up and down the peninsula, and one tree and that is all it takes.

I also like to travel, search and photograph Moose North of Moose Head Lake where normal cell service as Verizon, AT&T, etc does not work.

GMRS with the Maine repeaters gives me great comfort knowing someone is out there and always listening if my need arises.

When I am mobile on the road, I am also always listening if someone else would have the need.

Having a check in, even if one time per month, lets me know my equipment is working properly. It is also nice to be able to hear my voice on Facebook when the host is putting it out there live.

I thank all the people who make the Maine repeater network possible.
